I just read the piece in today's Herald about the young man in Newton who assaulted his younger brother for turning on the air conditioner. While I don't advocate violence of any kind, I do relate to his rage over air conditioning. We have air conditioning here at WROR and in the summer the building is generally cool everywhere but in my studio. I shut the AC off. I like it a balmy 80 degrees. People (ok, mostly women) come in to warm up. I don't have AC in my car. If you're hot, open the window and wear summer clothing.
Of course wearing summer clothing could be problematic as offices, restaurants, grocery stores, and the like tend to have the temperature down around 55. Why? It would never be that cool in these buildings any other time of the year. I get it. It's hot out sometimes and it's nice to experience cooler air when you come in out of the sun.... but DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO COLD YOU LOOK LIKE YOU'RE SMUGGLING RAISINS UNDER YOUR SHIRT! And will someone please bring back the wing window in cars.

OMG wing windows! The saddest thing about replacing my 96 truck with a new one last year was losing the wing mirror.
It's the best ever for cooling the lower half, as it were. You could really control the airflow. Why did they get rid of them?!
jo (been cooking lately missy??)
I can totally relate about the air being so cold in buildings. Yes the initial cool air is great, but when you have goosebumps and want some hot chocolate thats just way to cold!!!!
Wow, if you like Balmy you would DEFINATELY Love Houston HINT HINT ;)
umm...my car has NO ac and the windows are all broken (electric) and stuck shut. Try driving home in that after it's been sitting in the sun for 9 hours... well over 100 degrees..lol...
but as usual, i'm too poor to fix it.. haha
Ahhh....wing windows bring back such memories of growing up. The classic use of them (other than to directo air into a non air-conditioned car, was to provide an ideal way to flick your cigartte ashes out when it was raining. So far we've come. Now, I don't even allow smoking in the car. Wing windows were also great if you had to try to unlock your door when the keys were sitting in the ignition. It didn't also work, but at least gave you some hope.
I love raisins!
